G Adventures Beginnings

It all began in 1990 when a very inspired young man named Bruce Poon Tip returned from a backpacking tour of Asia, determined to share his vision of how to experience travel adventures in an authentic and sustainable manner.

G Adventures has custom-made travel adventures for everyone!

By offering adventure-craving travelers an affordable small-group alternative to crowded resorts and cruises,  Bruce (G Adventures CEO) changed the way people looked at their holiday time.

What started off as a one-man show in 1990 has since grown to become the world’s largest adventure travel company with more than 2,200 employees in 28 offices worldwide.

My Favorite Tours

Crossing a hanging bridge in Patagonia, Chile

From my first G Adventures trip in 2004 hiking in Italy to my most recent adventure just this past month on 2 different tours hiking in Greece (including Mount Olympus!) every tour has exceeded my expectations and – obviously – inspired me to return for more.

Below is a short description of some of the trips I’ve taken with G Adventures.

Click on the trip title or the blue highlighted link for a detailed itinerary and departure dates.  Maybe one of them will be just right for you!

(If the trip I took is no longer available, I’ve linked to a trip with an updated but similar itinerary.)

NOTE:  As of April 1, 2023 GAP no longer requires travelers to show proof of COVID vaccines & boosters or provide a Medical exemption to travel with them on any tour.  That said, “All Vaccinated” tours are available.

Travel, whether it's close to home or on the other side of the world, requires travel resources you can rely on. Over the years, I've experimented with a lot of different ways to research and book trips. In the process, I've found a few favorite adventure travel resources for planning and booking travel in the US and around the world. Maybe they'll work for you, too! #Idratherwalk #AdventureTravel #TravelResources
Stopping for a picnic during a hike near Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc Explorer –

Signpost with trail markers at LeCrozat near Mont Blanc

Towering above the already towering Alps, Mont Blanc commands respect.

This trip puts committed travelers with excellent fitness on intimate terms with the ceiling of Europe, rewarding travelers with strolls through quaint alpine villages, hearty dinners, relaxing spa visits, ancient ruins, and some of the most jaw-dropping mountain scenery you’ll ever see.

Prepare to be challenged, awestruck, and amazed.  🙂

Choquequirao To Machu Picchu Express –

Explore the ruins of Choquequirao, the lost city that’s even more remote than nearby Machu Picchu, but you’ll see that too.

…and this wasn’t even the hard part 🙂

This shorter trek is perfect if you’re looking for an adventure that’s as challenging as it is rewarding.

Because of its difficult-to-reach location, the site sees relatively few visitors. This means you’ll get to experience Incan history in near-solitude, surrounded by nothing but ancient architecture and spanning forests.

Here’s an excerpt from one of my letters home from this trip:

“We got back late yesterday evening from our four days of hiking, climbing to the ruins of Choquequirao, and camping.  The highest altitude we reached was a bit above 12,000 feet. For most of the trek, the only people we saw were from our own group of 12 and our porters and guides.  The ages of the group range from 32 to 65, with most in their 40s and 50s. We’re all a bit sore, but otherwise rightfully proud of ourselves.”

WELLNESS ITALY – ROME & TUSCANY –

Stopping by Pisa on the way to Florence….

After a morning yoga session and a leisurely day on the grounds of Palatine Hill and the Colosseum in Rome, your tour will take you to the lush landscapes of Tuscany.

There, you’ll have time to wander through welcoming villages, taste exceptional local food and wine, and cycle through the Tuscan hills.

A dip in healing thermal waters will leave you rejuvenated long after your final stop in Florence!

Local Living In Italy –  Amalfi Coast –

Church near Chamonix, France

Charming hilltop towns, acres of lemon groves and vineyards, mile after mile of stunning cliffs kissed by cobalt-blue water  –  that’s what you’ll find on the Amalfi Coast.

On this trip, you’ll live like the locals, discovering the small towns, mountain trails, and local customs of this uniquely beautiful place.

Explore the ruins of Pompeii in the morning, hike the coastline of the Med by afternoon, and tuck into bed at your converted 17th-century monastery home base at sundown.

Here’s an excerpt from one of my letters home from this trip:

“Just completed the “Walk of the Gods” which is a 5 hour hike along the coast up in the mountains between Agerola (Bomerano) and ends up in Positano, which is where I am now, having a well-deserved birre and loll on the beach before catching the hydrofoil back to Amalfi.  Ciao for now!”
